Mainz have received a major boost ahead of the 2026/27 season after Nadiem Amiri confirmed he will remain at the club despite attracting strong interest during the summer transfer window.
The Germany international ended weeks of speculation by announcing his decision in a video released by Mainz on Saturday evening, making it clear that he has no plans to leave the club before the new campaign begins.
Speaking directly to supporters, Amiri said:
“A lot has been written in recent weeks. I also had a lot of offers. But I decided with my family that I would definitely stay here.”
According to Bild, the 29-year-old had even reached an agreement with RB Leipzig earlier this summer. However, the proposed move ultimately collapsed, allowing Mainz to retain one of their most influential players.
The midfielder remains under contract with Mainz until 2028, giving the club long-term security around one of the key figures in their squad.
Keeping Amiri is expected to strengthen Mainz’s ambitions for the new season, with the experienced playmaker set to play a central role once again in the heart of midfield.
