Germany international Nadiem Amiri is edging closer to a Bundesliga move, with RB Leipzig reportedly making significant progress in their pursuit of the Mainz midfielder.
According to reports, Leipzig have already reached a basic agreement with the 29-year-old, while negotiations with Mainz are also advancing. The transfer fee is expected to fall between €15 million and €20 million, with both clubs believed to be closing in on a deal.
However, one major obstacle remains before the transfer can be completed. Leipzig are currently looking to reduce the size of their squad and need to offload players before finalising Amiri’s arrival. Midfielder Eljif Elmas is the leading candidate to leave, with Turkish giants Beşiktaş among the clubs reportedly interested after his recent loan spells away from the club.

The switch could also strengthen Amiri’s position in the Germany national team. He impressed with a lively cameo and an assist against Ivory Coast at the World Cup before converting his penalty in Germany’s last-32 shootout defeat to Paraguay.
With Jürgen Klopp now leading the national team, Amiri’s energetic pressing, work rate and technical quality are seen as traits that fit the new manager’s vision. Regular performances for a Champions League club like RB Leipzig could significantly boost his chances of becoming a permanent fixture in Germany’s squad.
