Joey Veerman is on the verge of joining Borussia Dortmund from PSV, with the Bundesliga club set to trigger the midfielder’s €22 million release clause, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.
The 27-year-old has a medical scheduled for Monday. If he successfully completes it, Veerman is expected to sign a contract with Dortmund running until mid-2031.
Dortmund had identified Veerman as a serious midfield target earlier this week, and the release clause in his PSV contract, which runs until 2028, has now paved the way for the move.
Veerman had already hinted at his excitement over a potential transfer after PSV’s 2-1 win against Excelsior. “It is of course a wonderful club,” he said, while admitting he had been waiting for a major move for years.
The Netherlands international joined PSV in January 2022 and enjoyed a highly successful spell, winning the Eredivisie once, the KNVB Cup twice and the Johan Cruyff Shield three times.
A move to Dortmund would finally give Veerman the major European opportunity he has long been seeking after a proposed transfer to Fenerbahçe previously collapsed at the final stage.
With the medical now scheduled, Veerman is just one step away from completing his long-awaited move to Germany.
