Jamie Carragher believes Erling Haaland is on course to become the greatest goalscorer football has ever seen after the Manchester City striker continued his remarkable scoring run in Europe.
Haaland scored twice in Manchester City’s Champions League victory away at Porto, taking his career tally to 364 goals for club and country across 424 games.
Speaking on CBS Sports, Carragher said Haaland’s consistency in front of goal has reached a level rarely seen before and suggested the Norwegian could eventually reach 1,000 career goals.
Carragher Amazed by Haaland’s Numbers
Carragher highlighted how Haaland’s extraordinary scoring performances have almost become routine because of how frequently he delivers.
The former Liverpool defender pointed out that scoring twice away from home in the Champions League would normally be considered an outstanding individual performance, but with Haaland it now feels almost expected.
Carragher believes the 26-year-old has every chance of finishing his career as football’s most prolific goalscorer.
Porto manager Francesco Farioli was equally impressed, describing the Manchester City forward as a “monster” following the match.
Haaland Closing in on Manchester City Record
Haaland is also approaching another major milestone with Manchester City.
His latest brace moved him level with Sergio Aguero on 36 Champions League goals for the club. One more goal would make Haaland City’s outright leading scorer in the competition.
Despite scoring twice in Portugal, Haaland admitted he felt he could have added even more.
Speaking after the game, the Norwegian praised Porto’s intensity but said City controlled large parts of the contest and created several opportunities.
With Haaland continuing to score at an extraordinary rate, Carragher’s prediction may sound ambitious, but the Manchester City striker is already building a goalscoring record that places him among football’s most prolific forwards.
