Barcelona president insists Atletico should consider selling Julian Alvarez if the striker wants to leave
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has once again spoken publicly about Julian Alvarez, urging Atletico Madrid to reconsider their stance and accept Barcelona’s offer if the Argentine forward no longer wants to remain at the club.
Atletico Madrid have repeatedly maintained that Alvarez is not for sale this summer, despite reports that Barcelona have already submitted an offer and that the striker has made it clear he is interested in making the move to Camp Nou.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta said that keeping unhappy players is never the right approach for a top club.
“Barça’s attitude as a club is that, if a player wants to leave Barça, we’ll make it easy for him. A big club can’t afford to have unhappy players.”
Laporta added that if Atletico receive a strong proposal, they should take advantage of the opportunity rather than keep a player who wants a new challenge.
“It’s no longer just a question of the offer made, but also, if there’s a good offer, you have to take advantage of it.”
Barcelona Confident Despite Atletico’s Firm Stance
Despite Atletico CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín insisting the club would not sell Alvarez even for a bid worth €200 million, Laporta remains hopeful that Barcelona can still complete the transfer.
He confirmed Barcelona’s interest remains strong, revealing that the offer currently on the table reflects how highly the club rates the Argentine international.
“We have an offer on the table. He’s a player our coach wants, and that’s why we made the offer to Atlético de Madrid.”
Laporta also suggested that football has repeatedly shown that seemingly impossible transfers can eventually happen.
“I respect Miguel Ángel’s opinion and everyone else’s. There are so many cases where it’s been said that a player would never go to Barça and he ended up coming.”
Barcelona Set Deadline
The Barcelona president also reiterated that the club will not wait indefinitely. Laporta confirmed that Barcelona’s current offer for Julian Alvarez will remain valid only until the end of the month, after which the Catalan giants are prepared to shift their attention to alternative transfer targets if no agreement is reached.
